The University of Tulsa adopted Kendall-Whittier Elementary, a Title I elementary school within the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood, in 2009. True Blue Neighbors works closely with Tulsa Public Schools, the site administrators, students and families to support ongoing school needs. Examples of annual True Blue Neighbors contributions to Kendall-Whittier Elementary include: True Blue Neighbors Youth Mentoring Program (a 21st Century Community Learning Center), school supplies, playground equipment, professional development stipends for teachers and staff, sweatshirts, meals, books, testing incentives, field trip transportation, site revitalization, a steady stream of TU volunteers for site-based initiatives such as Reading Partners, holiday gifts and many other targeted resources.
“Established in 1983, Tulsa’s “Partners in Education (PIE)” program is a joint effort between the Tulsa Regional Chamber and Tulsa Public Schools. The program connects children and teachers with corporate, education, volunteer, government and civic leaders. These partnerships help educators improve the academic and personal growth of all children. The mission of PIE is to unite businesses and the community with schools for the common goal of increasing the quality of education for all students in Tulsa Public Schools while involving the community in the development of its own economic future.”
