Montereau has implemented a nationally recognized art program, “Opening Minds Through Art” (OMA) that benefits residents with dementia. During this program, volunteers from the local community engage Montereau residents battling dementia in a series of guided art projects. Volunteers partner one-on-one with the same adult on a weekly basis and establish meaningful connections in the process, encouraging and empowering their partner to make their own artistic decisions.
We are currently looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with residents each Tuesday afternoon from 3:15 – 4:30p.m. Volunteer requirements include participating in two mandatory training sessions on May 28 and June 4. Art projects begin on Tuesday, June 11 and continue for ten consecutive weeks culminating in an Art Showcase on August 27th at Montereau. No art skills or experience are necessary.
